School psychologists provide a wide range of services that touch nearly every area of student support. At Gibbon Public Schools, those services include:

Psychological and educational evaluation. The school psychologist conducts comprehensive evaluations to assess students' cognitive abilities, academic achievement, social-emotional functioning, behavior, and developmental skills. These evaluations are used to determine eligibility for special education services, identify learning disabilities, and inform intervention planning. Evaluations are available to any student from birth through age 21 and are provided at no cost to families.

Consultation and collaboration. The school psychologist consults regularly with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to identify concerns early and develop effective strategies. This may include help with classroom behavioral supports, instructional accommodations, social-emotional interventions, or navigating difficult family or community circumstances.

IEP and student support team participation. The school psychologist is a member of Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams and student support teams, contributing evaluation data, behavioral expertise, and recommendations for specially designed instruction and related services.

Social, emotional, and behavioral support. The school psychologist works alongside school counselors to support students with complex social, emotional, or behavioral needs. This may involve direct consultation with students, behavioral observation, development of behavior intervention plans, and coordination with outside providers.

Crisis assessment and intervention. The school psychologist is a key member of the district's crisis response team. In the event of a safety concern, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, or a traumatic event, the school psychologist works with counselors and administrators to assess risk, support the student, and connect families with appropriate care.

Early childhood services. As part of the district's Child Find obligation under IDEA, the school psychologist participates in the evaluation and support of children from birth through age five, including those served through the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program.

Transition planning. For secondary students with disabilities, the school psychologist contributes to transition planning, helping students and families prepare for life after high school, whether that means college, vocational training, employment, or independent living.
